Bathroom furniture is one of the key parts of the bathroom design. Use a contemporary bathroom vanity to help achieve modern look.

Today’s modern bathroom combines clean lines with function to create sleek, contemporary looks. The bathroom vanity is one of the most important parts of the bathroom and the design. Visible and utilized more than any other area of the room, the vanity should fit both the space and the design.

Shapes and Lines

Modern bathroom vanities are available in several styles. Curved or angled front, slab door, or frosted; there is a vanity to suit every style. To select the best choice for the room, begin by looking at other elements involved.

Lots of oversized marbled tiles with a great deal of veining and movement will be complimented by a curved front vanity with smooth doors and edges. Glass mosaics will be complimented by sharp angles and frosted or glass doors.

By taking the elements of the room into consideration first, the vanity will be sure to flow smoothly into the rest of the design.

Wall Hung, Floor Standing and Vanity Legs

One of the next things to consider is how the vanity will be placed in the room. Will it go down to the floor like traditional vanities, be set up on legs, or wall hung? To decide which configuration to use, look to the size and shape of the room, as well as floor and wall designs.

Small bathrooms can appear more open with a wall hung vanity, or one lifted on legs to help see the floor. Consider using a large format tile, or a mosaic pattern that will continue under the vanity, giving the room a more open feel.

Larger rooms with high ceilings will work better with vanities that are set on the floor, grounding the look and the room. Try running tile to wainscoting height and running a border around the room, through the shower and behind the vanity as a backsplash to enhance the look.

Colors and Materials

Modern vanities are available in more than just traditional wood tones and finishes. Look for metallics, bright colors in shades of red, blue and orange as well as resin counters and wood veneers in Zebra and wenge.

If using a brightly colored vanity, let that be the biggest splash of color in the room, while picking up small amounts of the color to accent the rest of the room with. Try a red vanity with a red glass shower floor and border running around the room. Or use a cobalt vanity and accent with cobalt light sconces, and an accent wall in the shower framed with cobalt tile.

Use light and dark wood tones to contrast the other tones in the room. Use wenge colored veneer with calacatta marble walls and floors or a bleached maple with dark brown, fabric inspired porcelain.

Modern vanities can be ordered in multiple sizes to fit any space, and are often available with other components to complete a room. Linen towers, vanity toppers and tub surrounds can all be utilized to bring the look together, while offering additional storage and space.
